Review of 2020 & 2021 - aka 'The Pandemic Years'

Like other theatre groups, our rehearsals and plans for 2020 came to an abrupt halt in March 2020.  We had only finalised our programme for the year in January, and had high hopes of bringing our audience a full season of entertainment.  However, that programme had to be put to one side - at that time we hoped only until the following year.

By November 2020 it was apparent that there was no hope of bringing live shows to our audience.  As an am-dram group we were constrained by having to follow household rules when it comes to social distancing and mixing, both in terms of rehearsals and performance.  And as a club with only a small membership - some of whom fell into at risk groups - it made it impossible for us to put on a live show at that time.

We managed to keep ourselves busy though, recording two podcasts - all done remotely over Zoom and using smartphones to record our performance.  They are both available, free to listen to, on www.soundcloud.com
Part 1: "The Assassination of Robert Opray"
Part 2: "Whatever Happened to Robert Opray"

We really enjoyed the creative process and hope that our audience enjoys listening to our efforts.  We are very proud of what we achieved given that it was completely new to all of us!

And so, 2021 began pretty much as 2020 had ended; with great uncertainty about when we would ever get back on stage.

We contemplated a small live production, but in the end decided on another podcast - a revisit of one of our favourite Murder Mysteries : Murder on the Catwalk.  Rejigged for an audio performance, we think it turned out quite well (again available on soundcloud).

We then took a break, deciding to take things steadily until the end of the year in the hopes that things would improve.

And thankfully things did improve!

In December 2021 we finally got back on stage in front of a live audience.  And it was fabulous!  An evening of readings from Charles Dickens that we called "Dickens' Christmas Voices".  Audiences were small, but that was fine as we wanted to test the water and ease our way back.

All we can say now is roll on 2022 - we're coming back with a full season, starting with a laugh out loud comedy!

We look forward to seeing you at a show at the library.

xx
