Southwell Theatre Club and
Murder Mysteries

Southwell Theatre Club has a longstanding relationship with Murder Mysteries.  For a number of years we performed murder mysteries at the request of groups and organisations across the county, and occasionally further afield.

In more recent years, we have decided to limit our murder mysteries to performances for the general public and occasional dedicated performances for groups within the immediate vicinity of Southwell.  As a drama group with a relatively small membership this helps to make sure that we can give sufficient attention to our main productions which are the lifeblood of any amateur drama group.

But, we dearly love performing murder mysteries ~ and even have two in-house writers who love writing them for us ~ and they are a great introduction to acting and backstage work for any newcomers to the club.

Our Murder Mysteries are very definitely interactive.  Taking the form of a short play, Act 1 sets the scene introducing all the characters.  There is then an Interval break for a light supper (included in your ticket price).  Act 2 concludes with ‘the murder’ after which the suspects will gather for interrogation by audience members.  We close the evening by revealing 'whodunnit' - and invoking the classic 'Mousetrap' caveat of asking the audience not to share the murderer's identity!

Being performed mainly at the end of our season, in December, it's fair to say that we see our Murder Mysteries as our own version of the Christmas Panto - and in recent years, they have even taken on a panto-theme!  Usually performed to full houses, they are always lots of fun and they can sometimes prove a real challenge for our crime solving audiences.

Keep your pencils sharpened and notebooks at the ready!
