Review of 2025 Season
2025 was a milestone year for Southwell Theatre Club as we marked our 75th anniversary, celebrating a proud tradition of bringing live theatre to our community since 1950. While the year did not unfold entirely as we had originally planned, it was nonetheless one of reflection, resilience, and continued creativity.

Our anniversary season was intended to open in the spring, but unforeseen circumstances meant that our production schedule had to be adjusted. Despite this disappointment, members remained as committed as ever, and in October we were delighted to bring Noël Coward’s much-loved comedy 'Blithe Spirit' to the stage. The production was a fitting choice for our anniversary year, reflecting both our past and our enduring passion for classic theatre, and it was warmly received by audiences.

No sooner had the curtain fallen than attention turned to our annual festive tradition, as rehearsals began for our murder mystery pantomime, 'Happily Never After'. With its usual blend of humour, mystery, and audience participation, the show continued our commitment to providing entertaining and varied productions for our audiences.

Although our wider anniversary celebrations were necessarily more modest than we had hoped, we were pleased to mark the occasion in other meaningful ways. A summer barbecue brought current members together to celebrate the club’s remarkable milestone and the friendships that sustain it, while our annual post-Christmas meal provided another opportunity to reflect on the year and look ahead.

Our 75th year may not have been quite the celebration we first envisaged, but it was a reminder of the strength, dedication, and spirit that have sustained the club for three-quarters of a century. We now look forward with confidence to the future, and to continuing our tradition of live theatre in Southwell for many years to come.
