October's offering ~ "The Bear" and "The Proposal"
Press Release:
3 September 2022
Southwell Theatre Club’s next show will be two one-act comedic plays by the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov. Our production of 'The Bear' and 'The Proposal' will take place at Southwell Library from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th October.

Chekhov’s work offers a broad social perspective on late 19th century Russia and the pair of short jests that we have selected, 'The Bear' and 'The Proposal', very much reflect rural society at that time. Chekhov died of tuberculosis aged 44, leaving a literary legacy of plays, such as 'The Cherry Orchard', 'Three Sisters', 'Uncle Vanya', and 500 short stories behind him.
Our duo of Chekhov’s, which we were rehearsing when the first lockdown began in 2020, are directed by Richard O’Malia, and will be performed at Southwell Library from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th October. Doors and bar open at 7pm; show starts at 7:30pm. Tickets priced £10 each are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/southwelltheatreclub or in person from Southwell Library, telephone 01636 812148.

Want to get involved in amateur theatre yourself? We are re-starting our monthly social meetings which we hope will be a chance for newcomers to get to know us and find out more about what’s involved. From Tuesday 13th September we will be meeting each month from 7:30pm in the Conservatory at The Admiral Rodney in Southwell. Following this, meetings will take place on the second Tuesday, 7:30pm at The Rodney, so if you are interested in joining us please do get in touch - or just come along!

And a final date for your diary - our annual Murder Mystery will take place on Saturday 10th December at Southwell Library.
