Looking ahead to the rest of the season

Sophistication and Piracy lay at the heart of Southwell Theatre Club’s coming season.

In October the scene will be set for a reproduction of Noel Coward’s ‘Private Lives’.

First staged in 1930 starring Noel Coward, Gertrude Lawrence, Adrianne Allen and

Lawrence Oliver, the story concerns a divorced couple, who while honeymooning with

their new spouses, find they are staying in adjacent rooms. Despite their previous fiery

relationship, they discover the old flames still flicker and burn. The show will run

nightly at Southwell Library from Thursday 10th until Saturday 12th October.

‘Treasure Island – the Murder Mystery Panto!’ will be swashbuckling its way into

Southwell Library in December. Helped by her son Jim Ladd, Mrs Ladd, runs the

Admiral Benblowers Inn, in a lonely cove by the seashore. Enter rough old buccaneer

Billy Barnacle looking for a place to hide a treasure map. Enter pirates looking for him.

Enter Long John Silver and his parrot looking for them. Enter Cyrene, a maiden jilted by

a sailor, with a pathological hatred of sailing men. Enter Broadside Betty the most

fearsome pirate known to man (or woman) and you have a recipe for mayhem and

murder. Public nights for this rip roaring tale are Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December.
