Kicking Off Our 75th Anniversary Year with a Spirited Classic

2025 marks Southwell Theatre Club’s 75th anniversary, and to launch the celebrations, we are excited to present Blithe Spirit by Noël Coward as the opening production of this special season. Directed by Ann Tyler, this much-loved comedy will run from Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th May at Southwell Library.

A timeless classic, Blithe Spirit tells the story of novelist Charles Condomine, who, in the name of research, invites an eccentric medium to conduct a séance. What follows is a hilarious and supernatural whirlwind as Charles finds himself haunted - quite literally - by the ghost of his mischievous first wife, much to the dismay of his very-much-alive second wife. Packed with Coward’s signature wit, sharp dialogue, and plenty of ghostly goings-on, the play promises an evening of laughs and theatrical magic.

We very much wanted to launch this landmark year with a production that celebrates both our past and our future, and this production is a nod to the club’s early years when Blithe Spirit was first performed - making it the perfect choice.

The Club is planning a celebratory event in the summer to which members, past and present, will be invited. If you have any photographs or memories of past productions that you would like to share, then we’d love to hear from you. We are also planning a display in the library later in the year and would love to include reflections from anyone with a connection to the club.
